Lazy Day in Lynchburg Itinerary
Looking for a slower day to just relax and wander about with no time constraints? Here's a suggestion!

Morning

The first stop on your lazy day is Lynchburg's Historic Old City Cemetery, located on Taylor Street. There's plenty to do, see, and explore across the 26-acre site. Also known as the Old Methodist Cemetery, this registered historic landmark opened in 1806 as a public burying ground. More than 2000 historic gravestones, monuments, and ironwork enclosures are carefully preserved. The lush landscape is also marked by a Butterfly Garden and Lotus Pond, a garden of 19th-century shrubs and local architectural relics, the Pest House Medical Museum (depicting conditions in a Civil War quarantine hospital), the Cemetery Center (housing a small museum on mourning customs), the Hearse House and Caretakers' Museum, the Station House Museum, and the Confederate Section containing 2200 graves of Civil War soldiers from 14 states. The cemetery also contains significant African-American history, from slavery to integration. A garden of old roses, many of them contemporary with the graves they border, adorns the premises as well. Several good-natured felines live in the area as well, adding to the soft atmosphere. Bring a camera along and make sure to tour on foot!

Noon

How about a casual lunch to go with your casual day? Visit the Community Market on Main Street for excellent food of multiple varieties! From fried chicken to hot dogs to exotic foods, the Community Market can scarcely disappoint! Once you've eaten your fill, why not browse a little? Explore a bit and see what the stores have to offer. The Market has a number of permanent shops including specialty gift and craft shops. It also features Heritage Crafters, a shop with exquisite quality items. On Saturdays, the Community Market also showcases fresh produce and even more vendors.

Afternoon

Keep the car parked. The Community Market is within the limits of Downtown Lynchburg, which is your next stop. Mosey down the street and explore some of the gorgeous shops at your own pace. Look closely - plenty of antique stores hold priceless treasures an unobservant passerby might miss. Visit the Galleria under City Hall on your way, and take a glance at Monument Terrace. Explore Downtown to your heart's content and enjoy the rest of your day.

A final stop that can be made on your lazy day is to drive to a high point in town just before evening and watch the sunset. Perhaps a return to the Old City Cemetery might be just the ticket.
