The Arts Itinerary
Morning
Start your Arts Day with the Lynchburg Museum, located at the crest of Monument Terrace and Court Street. Loaded with a variety of art and artifcacts, the Lynchburg Museum highlights historical Lynchburg - including art. The four galleries at the Museum include Art & Artisans, Piedmont Pride, Lynchburg Life, and An Ornament on the Hill.
After enjoying the Lynchburg Museum art, your next stop will be at Lynchburg College's Daura Gallery, located in the Dillard Fine Arts Center on the campus. The College art collection includes paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures by Pierre Daura and many other American and European artists.
Noon

After a delicious lunch at one of Lynchburg's superb Downtown restaurants, stop by the Maier Museum of Art, located on the grounds of Randolph College at 1 Quinlan Street. The gallery houses an outstanding collection of American art (chiefly paintings), works on paper, and photographs dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. Located on the Randolph College campus and open to visitors year-round, the Museum offers changing exhibitions, rotating displays of the permanent collection, and educational programs.
Afternoon
To finish off your Arts Day in Lynchburg, first swing Downtown and stop in the Main Street Gallery. Finally, finish off the day at the Riverviews' Craddock-Terry Gallery. The Craddock-Terry Gallery supports the mission of Riverviews' Artspace by exhibiting the work of professional-level contemporary artists in a variety of media for the enrichment and enjoyment of the citizens of Central Virginia. While still at Riverviews, stop by the Co-op Gallery. The Riverviews Artists' Co-Op Gallery represents many studio artists who are tenants in the facility. Tenants are not required to join the co-op, but many appreciate the opportunity to display their work in a gallery with regular hours.
Evening - First Fridays Event
If you're unable to do the day tour of the art galleries, another option is the First Fridays Artwalk. Visit 12 downtown art galleries via the GLTC Trolley, and it's free! We hope you enjoyed your Arts Day in Lynchburg. Let us know your impressions or ideas for additional locations. Email us. |
